The Davis men had mixed results attempting to defend their varsity 8, JV 8, and team points titles at this weekend's WIRA Championships at Lake Natoma. The varsity 8 struggled in their final, finishing 4th behind strong performances by Colorado, UC San Diego, and Washington State. Despite that disappointment, the Aggies did defeat Orange Coast and LMU to retain 4th place.

The JV 8 had a very strong row, battling a determined UC San Diego crew most of the way down, before pulling away with 500 meters to go. They took advantage of the fast conditions to post a sub 6 winning time and secure the 4th consecutive gold medal in this event.

The third varsity 8 competed in the JV event, and battled with LMU and Lewis & Clark for the bronze medal. LMU fell back early, but again the Aggies needed a strong final 500 to pull clear and take the bronze. Unfortunately, their performance did not count in the team points standings, as a WIRA rule prevents duplicate entries from scoring points. Including their bronze medal performance would have resulted in the 2nd straight team points title for Davis.

The Davis novice 8 finished 5th in the grand final. They entered as the 6 seed, defeated UC Irvine in the heat to earn their way to the final, and then outsprinted Long Beach to the finish line to take 5th.

The Davis 2nd novice 8 had their fastest row of the year, improving by almost 30 seconds to take 4th in their final.

The Davis men next travel to Worcester, MA for their first ever appearance at the ECAC national championships for non-scholarship programs. <% print_footer(); %>
