Full results can be found here. UC Davis defended their varsity 8 title in a photo finish over host Orange Coast College. Long Beach got off the line quickly to take an early lead, before falling back in the field. Davis held a small lead throughout the race, and headed into the sprint with a 2-3 seat margin. OCC pushed hard to the line to close the gap, but Davis crossed first by 0.2 seconds. The win gave Davis it's 2nd straight varsity title, and 4th overall at this regatta. The JV 8 fell behind OCC early in their race, but pulled ahead by the 1000 meter mark, and gradually pulled away from UC San Diego for a 5.5 second margin of victory. This was the 2nd consecutive win in this event as well, and the 3rd overall. The Davis novice 8 finished 4th in a 5 boat final. The crew managed to beat UC Irvine and hold close to Long Beach despite missing 2 of their top rowers this weekend. The Davis 2nd novice 8 defeated UC Irvine to finish 3rd in their race. UC Davis, OCC, and UCSD finished in a 3-way tie for the team points trophy with 18 points apiece. By the virtue of having 2 first place finishes, Davis was awarded the team points trophy for the 2nd straight year. The Davis men next compete at the WIRA Championships at Lake Natoma on April 29-30. The team looks to win a 2nd consecutive title in the varsity 8 and a 4th consecutive title in the JV 8. |
