The Davis men concluded their fall racing at the Newport Fall Regatta in Newport Beach, CA. Results summary:

Full results can be found here.

The Davis varsity 8, rowing together as a varsity crew for the only time this fall, put together a strong race to win the Open 8 event over most of the California crews. Starting 2nd behind USC, Davis made up the stagger and came up onto the stern of USC in the first 2000 meters. Unfortunately, USC did not follow proper head racing protocol and chose instead to block Davis' path the remainder of the race. While the crew would have enjoyed the opportunity to see how fast they could have gone without impediment, their performance was still good enough to beat USC and the remainder of the field. The Davis varsity 8 consisted of cox Alejandra Ojeda-Beck, stroke Zach Sawtelle, 7 Chris Wheeler, 6 Ryan West, 5 Dane Behrens, 4 Stephen Held, 3 Chris Easter, 2 David Schary, and bow Yoel Stuart.

The JV 8 finished 7 seconds behind UC San Diego's JV boat and beat 4 other varsity crews. A solid effort overall, though the boat was not entirely pleased with their performance.

The light 8 was similarly dissatisfied with parts of their race, as they were able to hit their stride only inconsistently. They ultimately finished 21 seconds behind Cal Lights.

The open 4, consisting of 2 experienced freshman, a 2nd year, and a 3rd year transfer, had a solid row to finish 7th in a large field, completing a full day of racing.

Davis will be back in action on Sunday, March 5 when we host the Davis Invitational. <% print_footer(); %>
