The Davis men opened their spring season by hosting the Davis Invitational. Results summary:

Full results can be found here.

Racing took place under difficult conditions - heavy headwind and chop with occasional rain. Coaches decided to cancel the fours events for safety reasons and only raced in the eights.

In the varsity 8, the Davis V8 and JV8 found themselves down on both UC Santa Barbara and Sonoma State off the start. Rowing in rougher water, the V8 gradually pulled back even over the first 1000, then pulled away in the second half of the race to win by 7 seconds over UCSB. The JV 8 unfortunately continued to struggle and finished 4th behind the other varsity crews.

The light 8 ran a close race with Cal Lights over the first 1000m, then Cal pushed ahead in the third 500. Davis regrouped to challenge over the final 500 but was unable to recapture the lead.

The novice 8 opened their college careers with a win over Sonoma State and Cal Maritime. They battled with the difficult conditions but still pushed out to a 10 second win.

The novice light 8 also fell to the Cal Lights. The race stayed close through the first 1000. Davis fell back early in the third 500, then pushed back at the 1500 meter mark, but couldn't maintain that momentum in the final 500. A fishing boat on the course forced Davis into some additional steering, which hampered their cause, though it didn't affect the final result.

Davis resumes the spring season on Saturday, March 11, hosting a duel against the UC San Diego men. <% print_footer(); %>
