UC Davis Crew - Coaching Staff Kelly Hughes (Novice Coach)

Kelly began rowing in 2001 for Northbay Rowing Club after coming off of a knee injury, weighing 230 pounds. In 2004, he qualified for Jr. Nationals in the double, placing 5th in the grand final. For the 2004-05 season, Kelly rowed for Marin and qualified for nationals in the single; he continued on the Cincinatti to place 2nd in the grand finals. From 2006-2008, Kelly rowed for Orange Coast Community College.

Freshmen year placed 2nd at the SDCC, Won the 4 at WIRA and got 3rd in the JV8+. Then went on to IRA in New Jersey and placed 9th overall in the Freshmen 8+. Sophmore year won SDCC, Won the V8+ at WIRA, placed 3rd at ECAA and got 5th overall at IRA in the JV8+. In 2008, UC Davis' V8+ welcomed him aboard, finishing with a silver medal from the ACRA National Championships in the 2008-09 season. After another year of rowing with UC Davis, he signed on as the novice head coach.

Kelly is an English major at UC Davis, and plans to graduate in 2011.
